Parasites! Eek!!

What type of parasites can live in your tank? I saw a worm looking thing that was spiked. I thought it was my brittle stars arm, but when it moved too fast and I couldn't find it anymore. I will try to get a picture, but does anyone have any idea what it is and if it's bad for my tank?
