Hi Everyone,

In the last few weeks I've noticed something white seemingly growing out of my clownfish's tail. I'd have thought it looked like something just got stuck to his fin but I see a line of discoloration in his tail where it looks like it moved out of. It looks like a thin white feathery thing. Pictures are below.

Let's see if we can get some additional eyes on your picture and maybe get your fish some help...

Thank you. Here's a better picture. The object on the end of his tail looks longer and feathery than it is in this picture.

Lymphocytosis or possibly a bacterial infection would be my guess. @HotRocks
It doesn't have any of the characteristics of lymphocystis (lymphocytosis is a high lymphocyte count, not a marine fish thing). The discoloration in the fin is what makes me worries its a type of parasite.

Yeah, I'm a physician and know what lymphocytosis is in humans but it's also is a common name given to a viral infection that causes white fluffy appearing lesions on the body but especially the body.

Lymphocytosis and Lymphocystis are similar in spelling but completely different. Lymphocystis is the viral infection that causes white fluffy "cauliflower" appearing lesions on fish, not lymphocytosis.

I think it’s the viral lympho. Which autocorrected to lymphoma which is another entirely different ailment!

Good quality water and food partnered with time usually take care of the issue :)
