These two have been inseparable from day one. Best fins for life.

Performed a five minute freshwater dip followed by an hour long Formalin bath for both fish, one after the other. Placed them in my 20G QT tank that was set up on the fly and dosed with Coppersafe.

QT specs:
-Small Fluval powerhead creating plenty of surface agitation
-2" and 3" PVC plumbing tees
-Aquatop flow sponge with 20G Tetra air pump
-"Sacrificial LR" from DT as I didn't have time to cycle a QT
-I also added a bottle of Fritz to help add in breakdown of toxic chemicals

Both fish seem to be doing well so far, a few goes into QT time.

I now fully understand the importance of observation time for new members of the tank, and will never make an addition to my DT without having done so first. This has been a nightmare but you love and you learn. Still have six more fish to transfer to QT after these guys get moved to my 45 I'll be setting up as a more temporary dwelling during the fallow period.

So my Flame is doing just fine, my PBT on the other hand not so well. Black specks all over, very pale and seems to have trouble keeping his nose up.

Looks like black ich to me. Formalin bath is a treatment to that, so maybe observe it for few more days to see if they clear up.
If they didn't, then prazipro can also be used instead.

You can read more about it here :

Most definitely agree with you. Following a Formalin bath and freshwater dip I am surprised to see them not even 24 hours later I guess. I will dose my QT with Prazi twice one week apart and see what happens. Thanks.

Would anyone suggest action on this? I can tell he is not happy in here, I am starting setup of the 45 today so he will have more space. He clearly rages at night something in the tank is always shifted I am guessing it's from the tang anyways.

Is this just from him bumping his nose and is it harmless, or does it need attention by way of medication?

I would just keep an eye on it. It does appear that he's rubbing it on something during the night.
