What kind of parrot do you guys think this is? To me it looks an awful lot like a quoyi, they just got it in at the fish store, looks faded a bit. It was eating algea off the rocks like crazy and eating frozen food as well. Was just listed as a parrot fish. I know most parrots aren't reef safe, but I had a gut feeling on this one.

Thank you!

It's starting to color up nicely, not bad for 90 bucks!

Had to turn up the whites a bit but it's looking like a quoyi to me

I am looking for a quoyi parrotfish, but almost every LFS are out of fish stock.
I know a few people locally that loves them for being aggressive algae eaters and they have not had any problems with them nipping at corals. These guys have some very expensive corals in there, so they would sure gotten rid of it if it nipped at coral. :)

Good luck with it, I am also willing to give it a try.

He was being bullied by a fairy wrasse so totally non aggressive, in the 2 hours it was out it ate a bunch of nori, some algae off the rocks and some mysis shrimp. I've wanted one for a long time, lfs had it labled a painted parrot fish. 90 bucks. I bought it instantly, it's about 4.5 inches. Stole it! Hopefully you have luck finding one!

I agree with Quoyi. You got a bargain.

One of my favorite fish. I've tried one twice and both times they ate well and flourished for 6 months or so and then just stopped eating. There have been a few people that have been able to keep them long term. Good luck with him!
