Hello. Ever since I started dosing with BRS 2-part a few weeks ago, my tank has been full of fine sand like particles in the water. Anyone else notice this? Is this normal? If so, is there an alk and cal that doesn't have these particles? Thanks.

Is the cal and alk being dosed close to the same time?

Just went and looked and yes, there is. It's almost like a slimey layer on the bottom of the alk, cal is crystal clear. Will be disposing of the remainder and finding a new 2 part. Thanks.

Sounds like you are over dosing calcium or adding it too fast and it's precipitating out of the water column. I had the same issue and only found out when I replaced all my sand and discovered precipitate underneath it. How old is the BRS 2 part?

I’m kinda thinking some of the cal was in the alk container.

If you mix the two it’s like glue (and I may have had to unstick and rinse my doser containers and replace the tubes lol)

Could easily be sucking some sediment from the bottom

Brand new containers when I started this a few weeks ago, and haven't had to refill yet. Mixed each part in it's own container. New dosing pump and tubes. I mixed everything seperately. I would concede to user error, somehow, but I just mixed up another batch of the BRS pre-portioned mixes this weekend in new containers, and put them in new VOSS dosing containers I made, for my coral frag/QT tank, and I'm seeing the same sand sized particles in it. This tank doesn't have a sand bed, and never has so it's not sand. I didn't mix the two parts.

The BRS alk was a pia to mix. I dumped the water in and it hardened up. Had to smash it , then warm it up and smash/mix it again

One could have some settling. Or like Salty was saying maybe the containers got mixed up or something else in the container could be reacting with the solution causing the sediment? Consider rinsing out both containers real good then refill & try again. Maybe even a good soaking with vinegar & ro rinse after

Thanks for the help. I'll try those suggestions with what I have left. I just went to BRS and ordered the ESV B-ionic system. It's premixed, maybe will not have this issue.

Just saw your post. I'm using a Bubble Magnus BM-T01, and I'm only dosing 4mL per night to keep alk stable. It's being dosed into the return chamber of the sump directly above the intake of the return pump. My frag tank uses the BRS dosing pumps, 1.1 mL per minute, definately not too fast.

Then, that ain't the issue, lol.;)
