When researching a whole-house RO unit (which I subsequently abandoned for multiple reasons) most water treatment companies suggested passing the RO effluent through a calcite chamber to neutralize pH and the make the water less corrosive to copper pipes. I totally get that idea but that led to me wonder why not utilize that it as a way to add Ca prior to mixing salt?

Seems similar to Kalkwasser but I found out that Calcite is a form of Calcium Carbonate that includes Mg and Strontium according to: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/r...n-of-the-day-266-calcite-vs-aragonite.387670/

Based on the numbers that I was able to dig up, calcium carbonate stops dissolving at saturation between 14 an 25 mg/l depending on temp and CO2.

In comparison, calcium hydroxide stops dissolving at around 1300 mg/l.

Calcium carbonate just doesn't dissolve very well. That tiny amount of calcium is insignificant.
