Patnala's Mandrin

I have a spotted in my 40 gallon, she swells up like a puffer when i feed live brine each week. Still havnt trained her to eat frozen, but I dont really see the point.

My first one used to sleepswim. He'd swim around and bump into everything. I worked until 4 or 5 in the morning and would come home and turn on the actinics. This was in my very early days as a reefer. I had the screens off of the powerheads one night, and the mandarin swam directly into the inlet. Kinda a downer for that morning. He turned out fine, but when I look over the tank journal I used to keep, I can see I was really concerned.

Tigri are a cold species of copepod. They will not die necicarily if introduced but they also will have very limited if any reproduction. Tisbi and psuedocylcops (spelling) are both tropical species that will work for reef temps.

That is my favorite fish. I wish that my would hang in one place so that I could get some pictures. He is always so busy chasing pods.

Nice! I have been looking for a mandarin that is already trained on frozen or pellets for what seems like forever, the problem is no one wants to give them up once they are trained.

Mine sleeps in the sand also, the 1st time I saw her down there I thought she was dead.. I don't know if it rolls in sand or what but she's covered in sand almost every morning.. must be chilly in the tank at night lol

Im selling my spotted as soon as I can catch the little bugger. Im tired of him picking on my spawning female. he eats anything I throw at him. He even took a brief nibble of rod's new food. Its all dried algae nori sheets and 2 others. He didnt eat much though once he tasted it.

Here's the method I use for catching a mandarin. At night I turn off the lights and leave the room dark for 1/2 hour or so. After the fish have gone to sleep I come back and find where the mandarin is sleeping. I then turn on the aquarium lights and just grab them with my hand. You have a good 15 to 20 seconds before they really wake up and try to get away. Ymmv. :bigsmile:

that would work...but I whould have to take a bunch of coral and live rock out of the tank to do that. He sleeps behind all the rock work.

Try turning th elights on after he's sound asleep and see if he sleep swims. He may not, but...
