Paul's 40 Gallon Reef

Cool little vid!

Another phone video showing some different coral in the tank. Also managed to get the possum in this one making a quick stroll out in the open.

So this is what I've been considering. Essentially it's a custom 80 breeder. (48"L x 24"W x 16.5"T) If the wife permits, it'll probably be a go. Not much to look at now, but it would be getting an overhaul.

Now this looks like a diamond in the rough. I hope she says yes!

Pulled the trigger on this used 30" Trigger sump today. Got a good deal. My current acrylic sump is questionable in some ways and this will make a good cleaning opportunity. Very good quality on this sump, feels indestructible.

So did she say "yes"?
Not yet.. she's out of town right now. The 80 isn't going anywhere no time soon. My buddy has it stashed away in the back of his shop. Swapped out the new sump today and added an extra 10 gals to the system. I'll probably be looking to upgrading the skimmer next. I'll be getting a model that will work on a possible future upgrade like the 80 or maybe larger. Here is a before, during, and after photo. Had to cut a corner to fit it in, it was a really tight fit. It's not the first time I've had to get the dewalt out on a running tank. Aldo debating on have a refugium in the sump at all.

Your tank looks amazing btw. I saw you have a single return. I'm planning my 40b build right now, what are your thoughts on a center overflow with a return on either side of the overflow?

Thank you! I highly recommend the "Herbie method", as I did.

I personally prefer the overflow being to the opposite side with this, but a center overflow would be just fine.

Love critters like that! Those comensal relationships are so neat.
Me too! Well, I love critters in general. Lol

With the 80 gallon in mind just remember it's better to ask forgiveness than permission [emoji23]

It's seems I have failed to mention the little purple dartfish I added 2 days ago. Well yea, I added a nonwrasse to the tank. Really cool and chill little dude. He's actually in video I just posted, but here are some photos of him.
