What's up everybody.
So I decided since I'm rebuilding the system I might as well do a build thread to document the progression. I know I'm a little late to start since the system is running but oh well we can start from here .
Little back story.
I've been in the hobby for many years now. Been through 3 house moves. I fell in love with in wall tanks since I see on at a fellow reefers house so I knew that the route I wanted to go. im a carpenter by trade so i know i could build it. In my last house I had a small 90g system I built in my wall that ran for 2-3 years it was probably my most successful system to date.
Fast forward to moving the the new house about 1.5 years ago. I knew since the basement in the new house was unfinished i would get to be creative on the tank/fish room design. I started by building the tank/fish room first then building the new man cave around the tank.
Finally got it all done and up and running and things were going good for about 9 months.
Then one sunday morning i got up with the kids and went to go in the basement to prep for the afternoon WC and as soon as i opened the door the humidity hit me in the face like a sack of bricks i instantly knew something was wrong. sure enough the 220 popped a seal and dumped all 200+ gallons of water on the back part of my basement. lucky for me the water didn't do any serious damage to the finished section of the basement just a few wet floor boards. sorry i don't have any pictures of the disaster the last thing on my mind was to take pictures of a hole lot of water on my floor and fish flopping in 1" of water..
I did the best i could to quickly get everything back in water before serious loss took affect. i lost some fish and a lot of coral. i wasn't prepared for a issue like this. after sucking up water and transferring everything to the sumps i plumbed a 110 gallon tub to hold the rock and fish.
Fast forward again a 2 months as i watched corals and fish slowly die (i wasn't as proactive as i should of been) i sat thinking about just calling it quits on the hobby and selling what i had off and turning the fish room into a office.
It came down to taking my son to the camden aquarium to put me back in the mood to rebuild so i ordered a new tank that week. Next thing i decided to buy after the tank was the new Apex system to replace my old controller to make sure next time i have a issue like i did before at least i will know when it happening not after
Now it feels so good to have the tank back up and running. im excited to replace my corals and fish and watch this system grow for years and years (fingers crossed) so i figured i would let you guys enjoy it with me. I'm not going to go all out and list all my livestock and equipment. If anybody has any questions please feel free to ask.
Thanks for reading. i hope you guys enjoy the pictures. i apologize for the horrible punctuation.
Now for the BEST picture..... The View from my couch... thank god i was tired of looking at a hole in my wall for 5 months
