I got a decent sized frag back in May. I can't figure out what kind of conditions it likes. Low light and flow it started to get coated with cyano. Then in a more moderate place it started to bleach until basically half the frag was dead and then basically just stayed that way until a month or two ago I moved it to a high flow high light frag rack and I'm pretty sure it grew back a couple coralites. But now the top is turning pale. All the other SPS in my tank are doing well. Including the two acropora frags I just got. The only other coral that doesn't seem to like my tank is my Acans.

Anybody have any advice regarding pavona or am I just not meant to have this species?

Pavona can vary with the conditions they prefer. I have over 5 different pavona's and they all seem to prefer different lighting and flow conditions. What are your parameters currently? Do you have a pic of the Pavona?
I moved a month ago and my test kit was broken in the move. Haven't replaced it yet. So I don't know the parameters. The bubble algae is annoying but my emerald crabs have been working through it.

Here's a pic of mine. Mine loves high flow and high lighting. This is under Kessil's at the top of the tank, 8" from the Kessils.

My guess is your parameters are off or not enough light. What kind of lights are you running?

SB 32" reef lights about ten inches above the tank.

Are they that sensitive to parameters? Id have figured if it was parameters the other SPS in tank would be struggling too. Iwas under the impression they were pretty hardy.

They are one of the hardier SPS. You mentioned the frag was covered in Cyano which could have contributed to its current state. Do you still have cyano present in your tank?

No I haven't seen any cyano in months. But when I had it it always seemed very attracted to the pavina frag. I was blowing it off with a turkey baster every other day.

Sounds like the cyano got the best of the pavona. It may or may not bounce back. I would keep it in variable high flow with medium intensity lighting.
