Hey guys,
I have had this guy for about 2 m now and although its growing, the base its looking bleached? ?. Now there is no way its low on nutrients sonce in at NO3 10ppm and .09 Po4. Alk is at 8.9 and calc 460 mag 1440. What is yalls opinion. Lower it?

PC rainbow loves light, I have some that grow faster than they color up so that might be the case there since its only the new growth that's white.

I had mines up high for 3 months and it turn all green and just incrust so i moved it lower like 6 inches from the bottom and it started to take off and color up...

Thats what im thinking. That the new growth ia white. But its quite ugly.

I might just lower it. Its decently high however its not directly under the puck.

I keep my PC Rainbow in medium indirect lighting. Im my 180 it is 1/2 to 3/4 up in between 2 radion pros. Mine has great color and no bleaching. I'd move it in a little lower light. Corals can always take a little lower light but too much light is very unforgiving.

I had mine lower and was holding the green with red, decided to move it up to the top and it started getting the yellow with red.

As others suggested try keeping it low light at first to see how it reacts and then slowly move it up.

Sorry about the darkness in the picture

Mid-point is where my PC Rainbow is attached, colors are really nice with the deep red, burnt orange and some green on the base. Mine also is getting a lot of flow and seemed happy in this location.

I have mine at the top of my tank under T5s at 370 par.

Thanks guys. I guess ill try to lower it a bit. Funny thing is right now is sitting somewere mid tank. But it is growing nicely, just that the base is all white as yall can see. But growth ia not bad imo for a month. Guess ill bring it down a bit

Smh
Your PC is gorgeous man, cant wait to have mine look like that

I have had one for 10mths now. I kept it in the 300 par range under led it it stayed pretty dull, but grew, then changed over to ati t5's and moved it up in the 500 par range and it got a green base and red tips and it growing much better now. I believe to reach full potential you need mid to high light intensity and consistent water as this guy seems touchy with minimal changes.

Any thoughts on this one. I have it about halfway up between to Radian xr30 Gen 2. It's about 2 weeks old in my tank and has only look like this a bit Greener but no polyp extension

Yeh...that looks beautiful. I think it's in a good flow spot and I am actually going to ramp up my lights a bit in a few weeks. Did it take a while for the polyps to show? Green has in increased and I feel like pinks are starting to appear. Just surprised by zero PE. Also, I see you have T5 supplements. Do you think that is key to bringing the colors out?

Well hows your fish load and N/P? if your running low on those feed some more.. Also you could have a pesky fish I had a flame back angel that nipped everything(just eating the mucus) but I had zero PE with that fish. I think T5's are a great light but I had the colors just as good before T5. I run 2 blue+ with reefbreeders V2 lights

Edit: saw your first post and looks like your N/P are fine. There is also a thing of too much light... I dont use a par meter on my tank I actually use this coral to get a ruff estimate of how much par Im getting. seems 500+ will make it pure red and anything under that will give it a more rainbow look, too low and its pure green. Also I would keep alk at 8-8.5 but always under 9 in that picture my alk was 7.7. Alk needs to be 100% stable for months for good colors

Obviously i've read about alk levels, but I can never figure out what is best...or if there is a best....I just try and keep it stable. My Radions are at 50 % right now, so I am wondering if it is too low. The guy that I got it from said that it wanted to be lower. Unfortunately, each tank is different and it's trial and error for now. What is your reason for keeping alk below 9?

Stable is really all that matters. Lower alk I find my corals to be more colorful that is all, higher alk i get more white tips, a slight increase in growth but duller color. But it is as you said every tank is different. I would agree with the guy you got it from does look to be getting a little too much light.. if it was me I would move it lower and not touch it for a bit.

Cool. Ill post a picture in a few weeks....hopefully it will hepl the next person.

So, following up on this. It started to get very green at the base about 2 weeks ago and now all of a sudden it's lost its green and starting to turn purplish/red (optimistic side) or slightly brown. On the fence if it's just evolving or browning out. I have started running my Alk at 8.5 now, but that was a few week in the process of dropping it from 9.3. Is this a natural color progression?
