i posted this in RC but i thought i might post here as well as i see alot more members with zoa pictures here than there. ive had this frag for about 6 months, no growth, and it's always looked this way. i've tried on the bottom of the tank, middle of the tank, everywhere pretty much, but it just wont take off.

it's on the left, yeah, that's how bad it is. any help would be appreciated =]

Those look pretty far gone. A cleaner crew prob. wouldn't hurt. I feed mine well. Mysis and cyclopeeze.
I agree. Got to get rid of that algae and then feed, feed and then feed again.

It looks like the algae choked them out to me. Anyway to get rid of the algae without hurting the polyp?

+1 on the algae... PD's are normally very tough but with all that algae around it, I think it was too much... good luck with cleaning the algae off....

Again, many of you have heard me talk about this but I will repeat it again.
2 products will help you.

1. 2 little fishes Coral Revive.
Make a container with SW to house the coral and use 2 capfuls of this product(10ml).
Then stir it around and add the coral.
Soak 10 minutes and lightly brush off the algae with a toothbrush.
You may have to pull some off with tweezers depending on how strong it is.
Then return to the tank. repeat process next day.

2. Hydrogen peroxide bath
Make a container with SW to house the coral in, add 1 capful of hydrogen peroxide to the container at a time until the frag begins to form streams of bubbles on it.
Add one more capful.
Allow frag to sit 10-15min.
Brush alga off as stated above.
return to tank.
Do this does once. Wait 4 days before repeating.

Your frag needed attention sooner. It is very likely that it will not recover, but I have brought back so many corals that I never say never.
Do this quickly as time is not on the side of your current frag.

LMK how it works out.
Rich :)

That looks like bryopsis to me. Not much eats bryopsis. I got rid of most of my bryopsis by slowly raising my mag. to around 1700. Worked VERY well. If only it worked on gha!

I've seen lettuce nudis demolish an infested system. They are consistent in their taste for the algae.

Rich :)

I've wondered whether there was a dip to treat the isolated frag. NICE information Rich. Thanks. To the point, I've been using a hungry hippo tang in a display to clean overgrowth (same circulation). Anything that goes in gets picked clean within 24 hours. But looks like this colony is necrosing. Good luck with whatever you try. Steve

after weighing all the options, i decided to frag it all off that plug and toss the plug. i placed the frags onto 2 separate rubble pieces and placed them on the bottom. we shall see... thanks for all the advice!

Exactly what I would have done.
