It does look like a feather duster but I didn’t know because I’ve never seen one out of its tube.

That Is the best picture I can get. I have my phone magnified all the way out just to get that picture. It is literally the circumference of a small needle and probably 2 mm long if that.

Unfortunately they only do it when they are unhappy with their location.. it probably wont survive if you have hermits but you can try to put it in a low light sheltered crevice (but with some flow) and cover the body up with gravel/sand to weigh it down and it might regrow a tube. Quite early on in my old tank I had one leave its tube and assumed it had been eaten by my spotted hermit crab Frisco (didnt know it at the time but he also ate fish when he got bigger), but when I took down that tank I found it was regrowing deep inside a rock crevice! I felt really bad because I couldn't get any tool in there to pry it out and I wasn't transferring the rock..

I got it in some frags that I bought. It was left in the acclamation container when I acclimated the new coral. So no telling where his home was. . I have a very slow moving spot in my sump with some chato and macro with some other feather dusters that my peppermint shrimp broke off so I put it in there.
