What experience do people have with groups of pearly jawfish? One rule of thumb I heard was one jawfish per square foot.

However, I recall some threads where people say they don't need anywhere near that much separation (I believe @eatbreakfast talked about this on The Other Forum, but I didn't save the link and I haven't been able to quickly find it).

Thanks!

They do need some spacing. Averaging about 6-8 square inches should suffice.

It's more important to get small specimens, as they accept neighbors better than larger specimens.

Also provide excess rubble for burrow building.

If you want two maybe buy a pair of yellowheads from KP Aquatics? They also sell Juveniles in the spring so you can follow Eatbreakfast advice. I had a friend who had three pair in a 210. I tried two pearlys from my LFS in my office tank which worked fine for a year. The older larger one would move from hole to hole until the smaller one grew up and got tired of being pushed out of his home, the fight was on and had to be separated. With BSJF females get along, only the males fight, I am not sure if that is the case with yellow heads.
