Hi all,
Would really like to add a pearly jaw fish to my 220g- but I keep failing. I’ve bought more than I care to admit, acclimate them, and then never see them again once they go into the 220. I had 1 success and he lasted for months but then a power head fell overnight and sandstorm filled his burrow. Are these difficult fish to keep or am I doing something wrong? It’s a 220g mixed reef, 55g sump, 4 years old. Clowns, tangs, anthias, dartfish, Firefish, angels, chromis, cardinals, Rabbitfish, puffer, trigger, nems, urchins, cuc.
my sand bed has been depleted probably down to 1-2 inches over the years but the one jawfish was fine with that depth. All jawfish from same lfs but most of my fish are. Thoughts? Thanks!

1-2 inches isn't going to cut it. They need around 6" deep sand beds, deeper the better. I see them diving all the time. Their burrows are deep. I'd either create a deep sand area or move on.
