how’s your experience with pectinia corals? I am eyeing a colony of rainbow pectinia. It’s so expensive and I Nervous but it looks so cool.

how does it ship during winter time? We got a bit of snow and the day I wanted to be delivered will be no snow and about 40-45 degree.

if you got a rainbow pectinia, please post picture and share your experience please!

Only reason I'm hesitant to give advice is the webs say these are a more difficult coral, so I don't want you to hate me if it doesn't work out at that price tag (tidal gardens has them at 150$ a frag) lol.
If you get it from a good place it will ship with a heat pack and at those Temps you should be okay(just make sure its a shipping option that arrives early am). I wouldn't have anything delivered if it was freezing or lower though.

I have the space invader pectinia and it has grown well. Seems relatively hardy to me and I think it would ship fine at those temps. The rainbow pectinia looks awesome!!

The rainbow ones are a bit more lol

I keep mine at the bottom of the tank ~20'' from the surface. Lower light and low flow makes this guy super puffy and color up like crazy! 6'' sweepers at night though  ... Did you end up getting one? ;)

I’ve had this for over a year. When I first got it from a trade it was much smaller and was completely bleached, like gray/white fully. Low light and feeding with reef roids really colored it up!

Here are two photos of it. One from when I got it to one 8 months ago when it started coloring. Took about a year to get to that coloration.

That’s a nice recovery, I have one my wife got for me as a surprise had a lot of blues and red/purple with what looked like white growth tips. It changed a lot the white turned to yellow and neon green, lost a lot of the purple if not all the purple. But it’s struggling right now as I’m recovering from a crash. Hopefully it pulls through.

That being said with the crash my rainbow Pectinia has been pulling through nicely. Had to have one being years ago a LFS had an nice big center piece one and in my head I needed a saltwater tank to get that coral.

This is my rainbow as of today in daylight

And this is closer to ramping down more blues

I didn't know these inflated. How cool.

As a frag, pectinia can be temperamental. As a full sized colony, our Space Invader is one of the hardiest coral in our 120 mixed reef. Still mixed luck with fragging, but more often than not, the frags now take to encrusting on a plug. We had a frag of rainbow that wasted away, but I'd definitely try one. I the case of pectinia, starting with the biggest frag possible will help.

You got it that size? My space invader came as a frag and has grown major slow. I have had it 6 months and has hardly grown at all

Yea it was this size. I saw space invaders going for $80 for a tiny frag

Anyone know where I might be able to purchase a nice sized rainbow pectinia?
