It seems like most sumps have the drain on one side and the return on the opposite side of the sump. I'm looking into a 6 foot peninsula build and I'm curious if anyone has created a U shaped sump with the drain and the return on the same side? I was thinking it would eliminate the long runs for either the drain or the return.
I'm also considering running the triton method, so my idea is to have the drain side run into the refugium, then at the opposite end of the sump have the skimmer section, then water would run back down to through a reactor section (or any other ideas? I'm thinking of using the BRS Carbon/GFO so I don't really need the sump space for it) to the return.
Curious what you all think of this layout...

Cool. I'll keep designing then. Thanks for the note on the Red Sea Sump

I don't see why that wouldn't work. I just went the convention route and put the drains on the opposite ends of the overflow box and the return section towards the wall end. My thought was to help with pump head pressure (shorter run) but I'm not sure it really made a difference.
