What’s with all the bad reviews of the casings melting on the Pentair UV’s after a year? I’ve seen multiple reviews with the same issue, scared to buy one so looking at option no.2

I have had my Pentair since 2016... Zero problems. I run it 24/7.

I've run 18w, 25w and now 50w Pentairs over the years also always 24/7. Top notch no issues either. Opinions will vary all over on high end vs. budget friendly brands. Any brand can have a bad unit here or there and typically when that happens is when someone will leave a review. My personal opinion is the higher end units are worth it if you're looking for longevity. I've run cheaper quality UVs on freshwater tanks and ponds for water clarity purposes.

Maybe it’s people running to slow of water flow.
I don't see how this could be an issue unless the lack of flow somehow raised the temperature to the melting point of PVC which is laughable.

I'm one of those who has experienced this issue. More disappointing is the lack of empathy or accountability from the Pentair Customer Service department.
But there it was: my kids came to tell me that they smelt burning plastic. I found that the vertically mounted UV50S was emitting smoke from the top cap around the cord. Disassembly revealed that the ceramic four-pin adapter had melted and that the lamp, gaskets, and quartz sleeve were damaged.
I contacted Pentair to ask about this situation on such a high end UV. Instead of asking anything about age, condition, usage, or even serial number, I was simply directed to buy replacement parts from their website - which cost $400+ - or almost half the original purchase price. Ridiculous!
The unit was purchased in Nov of 2020, lasting just about 2 years (I didn't install it until the tank was cycled.) While I see many here saying they've had nothing but great luck with their Pentair, mine has been a horrible experience that I hope everyone who considers purchasing Pentair products understands.
