I go to petco to return two fish I bought that were infested with ick and when I go to there tank the man was selling a gold rim tang to 2 guys who had there tank running for a week. He says I should have looked at the fish before I bought them. And none of his fish were sick and I looked in the tank to see a ick infested wrass which was dead and I showed him and the two men he said fish die and it's to bad . He says its against polisy but is it also a polisy to sell sick fish . The other manager was great and gave me the head managers name to talk to tomorow. I remember when that guy used to sell 100$ fish for 20$ and now he thinks he knows all. People like that in the hobby disgust me all about money and desieving people new to the hobby. Selling dying fish blaming it one the people so they buy more and more that's not what the hobys about.

were the fish showing signs of ick? ick is very prevelant, most times not showing up until the fish are stressed... example shipping and handling numerous times in a short time frame until it gets to your tank...

people preach qt for this very reason...

That's where they were two of the sick fish that were cleaner neon goby's so they were all over each other and only one had a spot in the bag I thought it was a air bubble I seen when I got home what it really was. there were many in the tank so he finally caught to and I said they were fine but he said its my fault I should have inspected and watched the fish before I bought it he didn't even get the 2 I asked for. when I got home I seen they were infested . But suposivly by the time I got the fish ick appeared . In a sterilized quarantine tank . Weird and that's only half the story and rudeness he applied to me the only reason I went there is becouse I had a gift card. I just didn't like how he was telling a hobbyist something like I was stupid and new to the hobby becouse of my age I've bin in the hobby twice as long as they started saltwater there just so used to taking advantage of new comers.

He's right, you should have inspected the fish closely before you decided. They are not supposed to talk saltwater fish back or exchange (I used to work there). Take it as a lesson learned and don't go back.

If memory serves, tangs are especially susceptible to ick. Even slight changes in water temp or parameters can cause an outbreak :( The Petco by me shut down their SW section because their employees couldn't keep the stock on hand alive :(

Please never buy fish from petco. Their Husbandry at most stores is completely nonexistent and they should not be selling fish. It's always been this way with petco, I honestly would not even buy dog food there.

I know but I just had a gift card and I did inspect them I just couldn't see it yet becouse sometimes you can only see it when there extremely stressed and I know they can't take it back but there also not supposed to sell sick fish I have a successful reef and quarantine system I just wanted to help new comers see like the two men buying a 50$ fish for 116$ and there tank was up for a week they just prey on newcomers and make them keep buying and oviously they will eventually think its themselves and give up that is not what the Bobby's about . There also teying to sell a half dead clam for 60$ and its 2 inches and kept under 2 white t8s with one or two soft corals .

This is the gut wrenching stuff that made me consider getting out of the hobby. to walk into a LFS and see death and dying of precious livestock. So profoundly sad.... I just kept my FOWLR tank and bought nothing new for like 5 yrs. I was so renewed to see wonderful farms; aqua culturing corals and fish (like ORA) i am going to try as best I can to stock my tank with these choices!

This is what I'm talking about and to see dead fish in front off me that we're alive when my fish arrived dead of the same thing how is that my fault another factor is all the tanks are connected. Just to say to bad fish die. And Fredg I'm 15 50$ is a very decent amount of money to blow off on such litle livestock I'm just supposed to act like it never happened. That's not right .

Look around for a real LFS one thats not a national chain and the quality will be like night and day. My LFS consists of 50,000+ gallons of SW they aqua culture alot of their own corals, fish, RL, and LS :-) and what they dont do them selves they get from ORA and they quarantine all live stock for 6 weeks before they even offer them for sale :-) they also ship and do online sales. If interested look them up... inland aquatics in terre haute, IN

I only wish the only decent store is a hour away but I have a reef club in Brooklyn every month that's good but I have one 10 minutes away but it's nothing to look at for its pricing its not worth it.

I understand that and i thank you for having such great interest in the hobby at such a young age. With that said, take it as a lesson learned. Not all petcos are horrible but most are. The only things i would buy are fish food, tanks, etc. They`re livestock is decent if you can get them when they first hit the water or even before they hit the water. Like i said i used to work for them, tried to help them Out but having a good saltwater section is not what they want. They don`t want to pay someone to spend their say back there and let's be real about it, fish are going to die. Even great lfs fish die, it happens in this hobby. Just steer clear of petcos livestock and you'll be just fine. :-)
