ok so i got a new pepperment shrimp today and i cant seem to find him in my tank and he is the first of anything i have put in there that has gone right into hiding after aclimation and i was just wondering if this was normal for them

i wasent sure if they normally do that or if there was something wrong with my water chemistry or if i just didn't acclimate right

Normal, and .. just because you find a set of whiskers and shell and legs don't get too excited... they molt all that. ...also my be why he is in tight hiding.

i know that they molt i just though it was weird because he was very lively ant the store i did test my water though and my ammonia was at 0.25ppm and everything else was normal

Mine prefer to come out after lights out or sometimes for feeding time.

you need to get the ammonia to 0 before adding anything else. however, peppermint shrimp will usually be hiding unless you are feeding at the time or lights are out.

im doing frequent water changes and other things to get the ph down so im trying lol
