I introduced two peppermint shrimp to my 29 gallon biocube, my hope was they would eat the aiptaisa in my tank, they did that pretty quick but also varied their diet to all my other inverts as well. They killed:
- my pistol shrimp who I had owned for a year
- my brand new skunk cleaner shrimp
- my emerald crab
- a snail (I don't really care about this but I'll list it anyways)
So my two peppermint shrimp (from aquarium depot) valued at $4 for both destroyed over $45 of livestock, not worth it at all. Is this normal behaviour?

Did you watch them kill the other inverts?
While they are pretty aggressive I doubt they would go on a killing spree like that.

I've kept a peppermint shrimp with everything you list PLUS sexy shrimp without problem. The peppermint hasn't bothered any of them and will retreat from the skunk cleaner.

I agree with mmacro that she's not likely to be a killer. Got any hermits?

I used to keep peppermint shrimp too, and had no problem with them. Here is a more detailed list of events.
- My tank is doing great, no problems whatsoever, the inhabitants are a yellow watchman, a pistol, emerald crab, various hermits and snails, and a royal gramma (plus some zoas) the tank is about a year old and (other than the watchman who has only been there for a week or so and the emerald about a month) all the inhabitant have been there the whole time
- I have a order come in from aquarium depot, lots of corals and 2 peppermint shrimp
- Pistol shrimp disappears the next day or two (I can tell he is dead because he used to snap all night and his tank is in my room)
- Huge algae outbreak in which I break down the tank, I find the emerald crab's shell
- Over a week or two I deal with outbreak then add another yellow watchman, two clownfish, and a skunk cleaner
- I find the skunk cleaner (who was small) with a large hole in his midsection, uncharacteristic for a fish as the insides were picked out rather than ripped out (the hole was small and yet all his insides were gone) as well as missing an eye
- I see the peppermints have killed a snail that flipped over, they are picking the shell clean and there are no hermits in sight
- I remove the peppermints and banish them to my refugium
Since then there have been no problems, I'll buy another emerald crab soon and maybe even another pistol shrimp and skunk cleaner. I know this behavior is strange but I don't see who else it could have been, my hermits are really docile and I've had them all for a long time with no problems, the only new introductions were the peppermint shrimp.
