Peppermint Shrimp Wiped out my Aptasia

I had one and it did a great job eating aptasia. I fed it whatever I was feeding the tank, mysis and brine mostly. . . It would eat off tongs and clean under your fingernails.

I've always had 100% success w/Peppermint shrimp wiping out aiptasia. They eat anything. I always laught at people buying lasers and aiptasia eating nudis to solve this problem; making it way harder than it has to be.

Well. When you have a court jester fish that eats the nudis and a peppermint shrimp that snacks on your expensive LPS even after he’s been fed Reef frenzy pieces, what do you do? Buy a laser…the second version of reef delete has worked wonders so far. Where I’ve shot the aistapia they haven’t been back, so far anyways. I’ve just tried it on ulva. We shall see…may be the answer in my situation.

Yup. They do the job. They work. My toadfish and Falco hawk are leaving em alone.
Added mine maybe a month ago. The numbers have dwindled and gone down but I still see 4 or more of em and during feeding yes I see em. Lol

I have a flame hawk and he doesn’t bother my peppermints. Just lucky I guess.

So I had a bad Aptasia problem in my 14 gallon Nano. I ordered 3 peppermint shrimp and in 3 days, I cannot see a single Aptasia left. What else do these guy's eat?
Same here. I order 6 for my 240 gallon from AlgaeBarn and they consumed all the aiptasia is several days. Now they eat left over food and scavenge the rocks and sand.

Agree with the keep them fed or they’ll find something else to eat that you may not be happy with. And I join the chorus of having hawk fish and peppermints in the same tank. That said I don’t think they were necessarily long lived critter.

There are dozens of Lysmata species that look very similar. L. wurdemanni is reef safe and readily eats aptasia. Others will eat coral and avoid aptasia.

i believe they can eat frozen/pellet food as well. where did you get your peppermint shrimp from?

I had some aiptasia in my 50 gallon, I put in 3 peppermint shrimp and while they never wholly eradicated it they did keep them "under control". How do I know? Because I slowly lost them one at a time, finally saw my banded coral shrimp feasting on the last one. Never thought much about it until I got back from 2 weeks vacation, aiptasia had taken over! I have been fighting them manually but have been contemplating a filefish, because I don't want to spend 15$ a shrimp to feed the coral shrimp.

The lady peppermint I tried ate the astapia but I couldn’t keep it, was snacking on very expensive scolys around the sides.
