I need to get a peppermint shrimp to remove aptasia from one of my rocks. Is it true that they will get rid of it. I would have it in my frag tank but just with a blotches rabbitfish.

I got two for my tank and they took care of all the aptasia very well buuuuuut I've heard that peppermint is a hit and miss. Some will eat some won't.

How many are on the rock?
Peppers have a mighty appetite, when aiptasia is gone there may be issues.
What I always suggest before adding peppers is if there is a few on a rock just take superglue and glue them in the hole.
You will never see it again.

I have about 7. I am worried about my rabbit fish because he loves to swim around and go up to the rock. What do you feed peppermint shrimp if the aptasia is gone?

I prefer kalk paste. If you have really good live rock they will just pop out of another hole of you glue over them. Kalk paste will kill them dead in seconds.

I've used peppermints in the past, most I've had have taken care of the problem. But I've had several go after LPS (mainly my Acans or caulastrea, the "fluffy" LPS) once the aiptasia were gone, so be cautious.

Mine won't touch the small aptasia I had. So I had to super glue it. Mine just sits under one rock all day.

I had 2 to take care of aptasia. The next morning both my plate corals were half eaten.....I had success with a cbb

I had some aptasia in my 29 reef and he ate all of it in one night. The only problem is that he has a taste for trumpet coral. I sonly have 2 small frags but I think that they are both dead now and I have to remove them. I have also heard problems with peppermint shrimp eating plate corals and frogspawn. I am planning on getting a nice plate coral soon so I am going to have to catch him :(

If you do get a peppermint shrimp wait for him to eat all the aptasia and then remove him as soon as possible. If you don't have a lot you might be better of with super glueing them. Good luck

Yup, they do great work on aptasia but they often take other corals as well. They ate 2 of my expensive rock nems. And they often yang the food from the corals mouth and a lot of time the tissue rip causes a lot other problem after that...

It's funny to hear so many stories of them eating coral yet every store or website say they are completely safe.

I had some peppermint shrimp to take care of aptasia once. It seemed like once the aptasia were gone, by pistol shrimp may of taken care of the peppermint shrimp because they just disappeared after about a week.
