Peppermint shrimp

I have never had one go after corals but there are a few different types on peppermints. I have had them eat my zoas and anemones.

Mine ate aiptasia, but once they were gone they got an appetit for my black widow anemone and acans. No matter how much I tried to feed them I found them eating the nem and acans at night.

They love Acans? How bout aiptasia?

Yes aiptasia and acans, I had some eat hammers, zoas and others, I will never attempt one again. Oh and it wasnt gradual, they would eat an entire acan colony overnight.

On rare occasions Peppermints will leave coral alone but usually at some point they turn rouge and develop an appetite for corals , usually LPS flesh and eventually realize LPS have stomachs loaded with food. They are also not a permanent resolution for Aptasia so IMO Peppermints are not good for our hobby. That’s after using them on numerous occasions over the last 10 or so years.

Well ****! I just bought 5 for my aiptasia problem. I hope it leave my LPS Alone!

I bought a peppermint shrimp to keep aiptasia at bay...... problem was that I never had any aiptasia, so instead my peppermint started going after my rainbow BTA. The shrimp cost me $7. The Rainbow BTA didn't. So bye bye peppermint shrimp.

Yes, they definitely do. I consider them a pest after my most recent experience with one. I picked one up to help me get rid of some hydroids and when he was done with them he started picking at my zoanthids and acans. I walked up on him in the middle of the night trying to tear them up. Even if they aren’t eating your coral, they’re incredibly aggressive come feeding time. Mine used to follow my turkey baster around just to pull all the food out of my coral’s mouths as I fed them. I eventually caught him and moved him to my sump.

Thanks for everyone’s input. I have3 in my 60 gallon. Hopefully I can trap them at feeding time and remove them from the tank
