"Perfect" Calcium with no Dosing?

Agreed on the Hanna calcium checker being inaccurate, it’s rated like 2.5 stars on most sites and is notoriously untrustworthy. All the other Hanna checkers are great.

I don't think they are inaccurate, they're over accurate. It's the human factor involved. If you do the EXACT amounts of liquids - you'll get accurate results. Multiple times. We as reef keepers get a little sloppy and that's why so many complaints. Hanna folks are over the top on their accuracy - (my sister is a biologist and her work depends on accuracy and she swears by Hanna products)

I don't use the Hanna calcium checker, but I have read some threads on it. Apparently if you get a micro pipette to measure exact amounts of your fluid, you will get accurate results. As I said I don't have one, but this is apparently the trick to making it reliable.

Most people dont need to dose...........ever. If you do water changes , and have that size tank with that lighting , I would surprised if you could establish colonies large enough to deplete cal or anything . I have ran systems larger than that with huge colonies in them on no water change for years. Its when you start keeping SPS , and they get large that it will effect your trace alot and need to dose. IMHO I think more people screw themselves dosing when they dont need it , based off whats popular. I love when guys setup a nano with friggen apex and DOS pumps stupid overkill , spend your money on a $$$ frag of something your really want and most would be better off , by the time you frag it a few times you might need to dose...... If you do water changes like I said , most people will not need to dose ever.
