Hey all, I've been watching people posting their temperatures here and there and was wondering what temp you run your type of reef at. Please post the type of reef you have (softies, LPS, sps, mixed) and the temperature you find your corals to be the "happiest" at!

hey there whats up. I run mine at 77F in the winter and about 80in the summer. I have a 90g tall sps dominated reef. I have a friend who as mostly SPS too and he says if his gets to 77 the coral look terrible. So its safe to say every tank is different.

I have all types of corals...SPS dominated display, chalice tank, frag tank (all tied in together). I keep my temp at 78.5. Some run it cooler or warmer...the key is keeping it as stable as possible.

78-79 is what i run it at, IMO though anything between 75-80 that is stable i think it would be fine though.

I totally agree. All of my problems ive had with my system were derectly related to temp and temp swings. I think between 77 and 80 is best but stability is the key

Yup, 77-80 for me. 75/76 like posted above is a bit too cold in my opinion for corals.

I shoot for 78-79 and have mostly sps.
And try to keep the swing within 2 degrees either way.
Lower then 76 is not good and I think over 83 is not good either.
Stability is the key. Swings hurt and long time temps below 76 and over 83 I feel hurt the corals in the long run.

I've had some bad swings this winter due to nobody making a heater that seems to last. When I was in Texas, my tank was at 70-71 for about 4 days from a heater failure.

Then again I had a few nights where the temp dropped to 71-72 due to a heater controller failure. Luckily, I didn't lose a single thing in my tank.

I try to keep mine around 79. I don't think the temp being between 75-80 is bad as long as you keep it stable. I have a friend who's tank staid at 83 for 6 months. Everything in it was completely fine but it was a stable temp. He just had to acclimate longer.

He did not keep it at 83 on purpose. He down graded the tank but not the lights.

my tank stays at 77 with no problems since i have turned to leds. When i had halides i had a few degrees swing a day and nothing went to south. I did have a big swings while on vacation and **** that kick my butt i got ich in the tank and lost a few fish really disapointing.

Not in my experience, my corals do just fine 75-76 in a mixed reef. I keep my sps tank a bit warmer but only because of the lighting difference (LED vs. T5)

I guess I run mine a little hot, I try to keep it between 80 and 82. I am thinking I am going to cool it down a bit now....

After getting back in this hobby I have bought about 4 different thermometers, and 2 reef keeper lights. Every single one reads a slightly different temp. With both of my RKL's set to 78, I can feel a difference going from one tank to the next. About a 3 degress spread between all the thermometers own atm. Long story short, if you corals are looking happy I would not change a thing. I run at 78 but depending on which thermometer I use it's between 77-79.
