Howdy all,

Texas not-so-new noob here. I've been in and out of the hobby off n on for a while now. Recently set things back up....a little to soon.

Survived a near catastrophe....sorta, but wow, gonna have to slow things down a bit and restrain some impulsiveness. Long story short, was lax in quarantine procedures, bought some tangs from an online vendor (I knew better from past experiences but dam, he gets some neat fish) that came in diseased. Came in all 3 with lateral line, later developed ich = crisis.

Yanked all fish out of the 90 reef, in the process of prepping the quarantine tank, drop some rock into it, crack...leak. ouch! Made a gut wrenching decision to place and treat all fish in my 120 display (not fully set up but was the intention). Saved all the fish from the ich breakout (tangs still struggling with lateral line), killed my display live rock/tank (was bonded to the tank)....

Anywho, the 90 was fallow, the wife's corals seem to be doing good. She added a few fish that are doing well. The 120, well....trying to make a strategy to make it acceptable!

Enough rambling, be well and enjoy!

Welcome!! I think this forum will be a great place to get back on track. I am new here also and everyone has been very kind and helpful when I have had questions.

Do you have a new tank you are setting up? Maybe start a build thread and I would love to follow along.

Thanks for the warm welcome all!

I don't have a specific build yet, just getting back into the game. My wife's tank (90g) is our coral/reef experiment. We have differing taste, so she gets to pick everything out...for the most part ;-)

"My tank" the 120g, the initial concept was going to be a softy reef wall experiment. I love the Red Sea fish and was going to "attempt" to mix my favorites with the rock wall. I remember an aquarium in the Texas A&M University biology department that was one of my earliest "wow" moments in the hobby. It had an amazing (at the time, things have gotten really amazing since then) reef wall with purple mushrooms growing / covering the wall with a few soft leathers scattered around it. The "hiccup" has kinda derailed that atm, maybe ill be able to purge the copper from the tank eventually, but its gonna take a bit of time if its even possible to get it to where I want without a brand new setup.

Of course, I have a plethora of concepts in my head of aquariums id love to create....alas, outside my ability at the moment .

I was there at the same time - '96 grad but somehow don't remember that. I was a BioMed major so definitely was through there.

Welcome & Gig 'Em!

DeepBlueSomething- Might have been in the early 90's, was there working off and on towards my degree....in Biomedical Science. They may have taken it down and moved the stock to a newer tank near the later 90's. Maybe "upstairs." I worked at a local pet store while I was there, Pet Paradise. Think the competition was "Some Things Fishy." Wow, the memories. I try to keep up with the Aggies football, its been painful lately tho...;-)

XNavyDiver- LOL thanks! I think I might fit in....

@Phoenix2018
Pet Paradise was the spot! I hear that Aggie basketball is pretty great right now, but I can't keep up with the schedule.

What did you end up doing with that BIMS degree?

DeepBlueSomething- Too much "fishing" , as my wife and I like to call the hobby, to keep up with much else atm! BIMS, not so much. Worked in a few labs, including the medical school and vet school for a few years afterwards at TAMU. Few other "jobs" sort of related. Eventually went back to school and am in psychology now. Considering a final educational round before I get to "ancient" status ;-). Gotta fund the hobby!
