Totally dumbfounded - this just noticed on my pretty good sized plating monti - there seems to be at least three of them that I can see - this is one that has taken up on the spike - the other in the background is just on the flat - there is another one as well just hanging out on another area of the flat. Haven't been able to find anything on line that resembles it. Pretty large - one is about 1/2 size of a pencil eraser. Any thoughts? Thanks

May be Neomeris sp.

Aka finger algae

On one theory, I want to say it appears similar to montipora mollis which fuses off coral and grows in same manner as digita.
However from what you describe, I wonder if spinoid worm except the tube isnt as calcareous as shown.
Does the thing you say moving look like this ?:

So I pulled them out with some tweezers. Came off easily. In the tank they looked lime green, out of the tank red/brown. Had a body with short worm like tentacles. They seemed active in the tank, but that could just be the flow. Didn't see a whole lot of movement out of the tank even in a drop or 2 if water

It looks dead, but might have looked like this at one time:
Thanks. I look at my tank a lot throughout the day. Work at home..tank in my office. They just seemed to all of a sudden show up. Never did see what you pictured
