Consumption!!

Clearly, 2021 is going to be a great year.

Yes!
Things are going great, montis that were washed, back to colorful, and that pesky fox flame is on the mend too. I give the fox flame another month, and it will be photo worthy :)
Cheers Rick!

Hey all, I received my magnetic aquarock this week, here is a fts showing the new addition, 12 predrilled holes for tenni's :)

Looking good, Perry. I like the shape of that piece. Should allow for some really neat growth around it. Although that urchin scares me. I remember being stabbed by one multiple times. Granted, the situation was my fault and a result of my own carelessness.

Thanks Rick!
I was actually noticing that my urchin is getting crazy big, knocked off a couple of frags recently, but no losses, just had to glue down again, of course one of them was my stubborn ones, Sniper SPS bubblegum milli, ughh... It was almost untrusted to the rock too. Life on the reef ;)
Cheers, and thanks for checking in on the journal :)

Good morning,
Time to update what's going on behind the curtains, so a re-fresh on husbandry:
1. No filter socks
2. Dry skimming, full cup gathered weekly
3. Mangroves/fuge , pics coming 2"sandbed, fuge compartment is 13"x13"x8" deep/water level
4. AF Pro Bio S and NP Pro at 3 drops daily
5. KZ Flatworm Stop every 3 days at 2ml
6. Rusalty oyster eggs at 2ml every other day
7. Frozen fish food feeding 1 to 2 times per day
8. Passive carbon in mesh bag, change every 6 weeks .75 cup

SPS corals are thriving, some appear to show daily growth
20210103_083916.jpg
, and colors are really good. Later today going to get some top down coral pics and update, but for now, here is what's helping me achieve success :)
Cheers,

Looks great, Perry! I really like the magnetic rock, might have to pick one up. Sps are on point and coloring up nicely. I really like mangroves.

Thanks John!
I like the magnetic rock as well, so much that I may add a couple smaller ones down the road :) I love how it adds another dimension to the scape. Things are going quite well, and yes, those mangroves are super cool, I am happy to see them growing. Fairly certain they are now aiding in nutrient removal. Happy New Year my friend, best wishes to you and your reef in 2021!
Cheers

I think I'm going to pick up one of those frag racks/rocks and a mangrove. Thanks for the inspiration and a happy New Year to you! Cheers!

Awesome!
I will be keeping an eye out for updates :) where are you going to put mangroves? Also, I got mine from a guy on ebay who sells them with 2 to 3 rows of leaves, and only around 30 bucks for 10. I think he aquacultures them close to me, in Titusville, FL. Great seller. Mine are on their 5th row, and getting bushy! Tells me they are getting nutrients, lol. Thinking of getting a few fish, need more movement in DT ;)
Cheers my friend!

I'm actually thinking about building a small planter next to the tank with just a small shallow tank plumbed to the sump. There's a place that sells live mud and sand from the keys, so when they have it in stock again, I'll buy some and stick the mangrove in there. I still need to wrap my stand, so I'll use the same wood (or whatever I use) when I make the planter/stand. I'm thinking of moving my clams in there, so it will be a display mangrove/clam lagoon. UNS makes awesome shallow tanks, so I'm sure I can find something that'll work? I wanted to do this for my 25g lagoon build, but this seems like something I can handle at the moment. Stay tuned.

I am sending you a PayPal invoice for the royalty payment due on "The Phoenix". ;)

You have some very furry frags going there Perry. Looking great!

If memory serves, Julian Sprung has mangroves growing in a planter by one of his tanks and I believe the planter is basically plumbed in. It has been a while so I may be confusing his tank with another reefer's tank. Neat idea, nevertheless.

Sounds awesome, I have a tank that I may use externally that's drilled, which would be perfect for mangroves. Please let me know about the project, I would love to see it unfold :)

Yeah, I told you that I liked your name, lol. I will do a frag instead, lol ;)

oh Dang I forgot all about this tank. I remember talking to ya when you were driving to Buy it. Glad to see the tank seems to be finally turning around for ya. That rescue coral is absolutely a show stopper. That’s a great sps collection. Finally thinking of getting back into the hobby here soon with a 20g peninsula tank. How’s the shroom tank doing? Any recent pics? Only tank I’ve got now is a 40b outside with mangroves.

Matt,
What's up man! Thanks for checking out the jounal :) Yeah, this tank gave me some problems, and right around 1 year mark, things started turning. Shroom tank broken down, I have 1 massive frank remaining in my fuge. Nice mangroves dude!!! I would find a way to integrate them into your upcoming system. Let me know if you are in the area? I have a 20 gallon, with hang on filter and led available for cheap ;)
Cheers :)

I’m just glad I found the thread again. Not quite sure how I would move those into the tank. It’ll be an AIO. Maybe a hang on the back fuge but may look bad being a peninsula system and trying to keep it with 3 sides for viewing. But it’s definitely not hard for me to go and get about 50+ more of them in about 20mins of looking. Thought about the idea of selling them But not quite sure what that would involve.
Sucks to hear about the shroom tank. I’m sure you had some fire in there tho.
Here should be the future tank. Lol
