What the heck is this growing on my turbo snail??? Good or bad? How to rid of it if bad!

I'm not certain? It kind of looked like a barnacle at first glance, but it also might be a vermitid snail.

A needled nosed plier might be useful for closer investigation of what is inside the tiny cavern. Swirl the snail in a cup of tank water and dispose of the water.

When in doubt, throw it out.

There’s no gap between shell and “thing”. There’s no cavern. It’s like a loop. Upon inspection, it’s very hard like the shell. Wont budge either.

Looks like a clam

Now that latter pic looks like an empty barnacle shell. They are harmless filter feeders but typically don't live long in aquaria.

It took me forever to find this pic but here is a bivalve that is a part of my Frogspawn skeleton and it looks like the one you have also.


I have several of these in different parts of my tanks and they still continue to grow.
