I was in a lfs trying to buy a small galaxea and Duncan frag. Noticed some bubble algae on the galaxea frag so I did not want to buy it. The gentleman grabbed the frag and dropped it into a emerald crab tank and they picked it off in 10 secs. He told me that it is ok after they pick it off but I told him my tank is clean and do not want to risk it.

So I went to a duncan frag and saw two tiny red worms attached to the plug. He grabbed removed the works and told me all I had to do was dip it and it will be fine. I declined again. I have OCD so I analyze frags with extreme detail.

If I were to dip a Duncan like that and scrub the plug would it be ok? And jf bubble algae is removed would it come back and spread?

Your best bet would be to remove the frag from the plug, dip, and then glue to new plug. As far as the bubble algae, emerald crabs are notorious bubble algae eaters. They can eradicate a problem quickly and keep you from even knowing you had a problem to begin with. Plus they’re only like $7 and pretty cool IMO

Do you use a small saw or bone cutters to remove it from a plug?

If you are wanting to aquire pest free coral frags for your tank ,, and you are trying to acquire these frags from your LFS ,, that’s your first mistake ,, it’s never going to happen ,, unless your LFS is WWC ,, Cherry Corals , Battle Corals , Jason Fox ,,, Vivid Corals,,

Don’t be that “ Guy “ you know the one ,, comes into the LFS with his micro scope trying to find a pest free frag LOL

Research into what it takes to create a coral quarantine tank, Jason Fox has a piece in one of his videos on his quarantine system ,, which is two tanks this is what OCD is but he has a lot to lose ,, as do the other vendors that I mentioned,,

If you want pest free frags , without a quarantine system ,, only buy corals from these top of the line vendors ,, it’s one if the reason their coral frags cost more than the back door vendors ,,

That's the kind of system I need in my life, it would bring me much peace to know so much goes into a qt like that.

Thank you very much for that input. I have been to wwc a few times and can honestly say there place is impeccable.
