Hello,

I recently purchased my first Zoanthid frag and all the head aside from two are open fully however I wondering if the two that are closed may have a flatworm eating them? Photo attached.

Thanks,

I don't see anything but perhaps if you were to circle what you think is a flatworm or take a better photo I might see it. Also often times Zoanthids will not open for a while, how long have you had this frag?

Thanks for the speedy reply!! Here does this help. I think I am just being overly cautious. This frag is only 1 day in my tank.

photo fuzzy. Looks like the leg of an emerald crab, but again looks like a lot of possibilities.

Thanks all. Patience is not my strong point. I dont have a way to get a better photo the zoa's are just so small.

I was the same at the very beginning, not enough patience, but in time I got it enough to wait, and almost always I'm been lucky. I can say just observe them often, look is it something nudibranche or flat worm crawling over them, give them a time and they will open ;)

Thanks for the welcome. Its my second time dipping my toes in the reef aquarium hobby. First time I was 12 and wasnt very successful. Already doing better this time.

i have three frags of zoa's they open and close all day long. Sometimes one or two stay closed. I added a fourth a week ago and only opens half way a couple times a day.I was told a zoa does what a zoa does.

Looking on the top one, it look like your water flow thru them is a bit high, that can stress them or prevent them to open completely. Try to move them a bit on lower flow, if they aren't acclimated to the higher flow, after days try them back on the old spot if you wish.
"I was told a zoa does what a zoa does." that's correct as well :)

I have all 4 zoa frags in center of tank running horizontally flow circuitulates around them not directly on them.
Thank you for your concern and advice.
I went back to the LFS where i bought it a week later and the ones they still have are acting the same way. I guess its a late bloomer. :)

It's a high possibility, so give them a time and wish you good luck with!

Thanks for checking in. All is well with the zoanthids. Their spreading quick. And my hammer coral seems to have finished splitting today.
