Hi, I'm a newbie to all this, just set up my tank and noticed these on my live rock - are they a pest? They are quite pretty [emoji53]

The last pic was taken at night because they glow in the blue light - do I need to get rid of them? If so how? Thanks

That looks like a paly to me it is a soft coral it is easy to take care of. They grow fast.

Yes it's a palys and they can become invasive. It's not a tank inhabitant that I would purposely add secondary to palys ability to take over scape if conditions are right.

If you decide to remove make sure to use gloves and eye protection. They contain paly toxin. Even light exposure will feel like the flu.

Oh thanks for the heads up - I'd never even heard of paly toxin before but googled it and it sounds like nasty stuff! I think I will leave them be for the minute as I'm only just starting out so there's plenty of room at the moment. Out of interest, if they do start to take over, what's the best way to remove them? Thanks [emoji4]

There is no best way other than removing the structure they reside on.
