Pest?

This cabbage coral frag has these white spikes coming out of it. they feel hard and stuck deep in. is this part of the coral or a pest?

I think that is part of the corals skeleton.

That is the skeleton. Although a soft coral they have calcareous spicules typically at the base.

oh phew. I got a second cabbage coral and couldnt see these spikes on it. good thing i didn't try to yank it out!

Also, can the cabbage coral be removed from the rubble? i think there are vermatid snails on it. i can super glue over them but...

Yes, best to mount to a rock lower down in the tank.
