My local petstore has Diatom algae all over their tanks. Is it safe to by fish or coral. I don't want an outbreak in my tank at home.

Pest algae is generally an issue only in aquariums where the environment is more conducive for its growth. Chances are almost 100% that your tank already has diatoms in it, but they aren't a problem because tank doesn't have the same environment.
