Stopped by a local pet store to grab some flake food for my clown a few days ago and even though there tanks look like a sewer I couldn't resist checking out there frag tank.. It's like a 30 long with a small plug older on one side and on the other side is a boneyard with a pile of dead and rotting frags, skeletons and plugs covered with red and green slime.. As I stood there in disbelief at the condition of the tank I noticed a couple of small white polyps poking through the slime and skeletons, I pointed it out to a employee who uncovered a very sad alveopora.. It appeared to be two thirds dead showing only bleach white skeleton and brown slime with only a small portion of the front still appearing healthy, I gave them $8.00 for it and figured I'd see what would happen in my tank.. A quick wash in coral RX when I got home followed by a strong blasting with a turkey baster to what I thought was the dead side dislodging some brown slime within the skeleton structure.. Well a few days later later this is what I have.. Only see one empty hole in the skeleton:)

Great rescue! Love a happy ending :)

I have doubts about the long term survivability of this specimen, it looks horrible every morning with only the original healthy side extending polyps and the other half looking like the day it was pulled out of the bone pile with absolutely no signs of life or polyps and even has some green algae starting to grow around the edges of its skeletal structure however by midday it's fully engulfed in polyps and looks perfect.. Gave it wash in revive yesterday and it did look a little fuller this morning, think I'll do a hydrogen peroxide dip tomorrow to head of the algae growth..

I wouldn't poke it too hard.Too often or too soon.:)

I love rescue corals. Congrats.

I rescued on a couple of months ago with three "humps" the next to largest died within a couple of days but the smaller and larger ones have thrived. It looks like one big ball now. Good luck!
