so I've had this long tentacle anemone from petco for 6 months. It's been with me in my 55 gal and when I upgraded to my current 125. I know petco anemones don't last long and my very large carpet anemone is doing great. Since the upgrade to the 125 the aneome has been acting strange. He hid in the rocks for a month and emerged, then he was super small and still currently is, now it seems like there's a tear in his column and parts of him are sticking out. To be honest I could care less about this anemone but I don't have the heart to throw it out unless I know it's gonna die and pollute my tank. Here's a pic.

You photo isn't showing up but it's possible it didn't like the change from one tank to the other. was the 125 fully cycled?

Also, petco anemones are about as good as any anemone. same goes for their fish. they actually get their livestock from a lot of the same companies your lfs uses. :)

The tanks is fully cycled. Idk my petco doesn't have the best items. Lot of ick on fish. I don't buy livestock from them anymore just some additives and food

A tear in the column would usually indicate physical trauma. any fish picking on it?

I added a kole tang and a lieutenant tang last week and just because it's my time off I have been paying a lot of attention to the tank and enjoying it and I haven't seen anything touch it

LTA typically foot in the sand not on rock, so I am inclined to think that might be a Condy.

If stringy mesenterial filaments are protruding from the column it's time to remove the anemone.

Such a small anemone in a 125 gallon cycled tank should not foul the water, but I would removed based on your description of the anemone.

Just a theory....it could have hid because something was picking on it. when it emerged, you saw the aftermath.

I placed him in the sand and he moved himself in the rock. I tried putting him back but he just kept moving so I left him

I see the photos now and it looks like a condy. they generally don't have as good of a survival rate as a quadricolor once damaged. do you have a qt?

When I upgraded to the 125 that was about 3 months ago. I fiddled around with him 2 months ago by trying to get him on the sand after he came out of hiding then this past month he shrunk down and has been on the rock. I had a temporary qt setup for the tangs but I don't think it be worth it. But I think if I would've damages him 2 months ago this would've happened earlier

Lights too bright? Too much flow? I've never had an Lta or Condy so I can't tell you much about their habits unfortunately. I'd leave it alone and let it walk to a spot it likes. If he looks starts looking like he's disintegrating, pull him out asap. Recently, i had a large sebae eaten by a blower and that almost ruined my system because I wanted him to have a chance to recover. I gave him 3 weeks and then when I pulled him out he was slime and had that "dead anemone smell." If you've ever smelt that before, you'll know what I mean

So I ended up throwing it later the next day. It seemed worse than before with more of it petruding out of its column.

That's too bad. What's worse is that you don't know the cause of it.. gonna try again with a different kinda nem? Can't go wrong with a bta. Always try the local forums before paying 3x the price for one at a shop. Gl

I way there was a club near me. I'm in central Minnesota far from the twin cities. I might have to order one if I want one
