Petco Derasa?

I also picked one up from Petco. I can’t seem to get it attached. It’s been about a week.

Derasa’s will lose attachment fairly early. They rely on their weight to keep them in place.
Mine seems to be always on its side, I can’t tell if someone knocks it over or it falls over on its own. Tried both rock and sand. Kind of getting frustrated with it.

You can place a few small pieces of rock or rubble on either side to help keep it up. Just make sure the clam has the ability to open and close fully.

How long does it take to regrow the foot if it lost one? Mine is either fully retracted or missing.

It may not release byssal threads at all. I have a 3”+ derasa that never released byssal threads. As long as the byssal organ is intact, you’re good. Gigas and derasa rely on their weight to keep them in place, when they lose byssal attachment varies.

Got a better pic today while changing water. The colors are just incredible!
Unfortunately, my red-lined wrasse is still nipping at it on occasion. Which is weird, because he leaves my 6" derasa in the sand bed alone.
I wonder if increased feeding will cull that behavior a bit?

Nice! I’m an advocate for frequent small feedings throughout the day.

Incredible colours indeed, beautiful!
On a side note: is that flow pump still working? Looks like it's in need of a good citric acid bath... ;) I also had a lot of this dark red algae (not the ugliest, but not the prettiest either), my tuxedo urchins fixed this problem.

Yes, flow pumps are all working. Although it has been awhile since I've cleaned them! I'm not worried about the coralline. No urchins in my tanks. Had one once. Giant PITA.
