Petco Find

Nice!!! They got some ORA Aquaculturd Variegated Pincushion Urchins recently, and they were only like 10ish dollars! Amazing price for a captive bred urchin!
It’s also cool that they have a lot of captive bred fish such as dottybacks, striped blennys, and cleaner gobies.
I've been waiting for Petco to get some, but they said they won't be carrying them anymore

ugh, i never see carpets at mine, wish they would get one in finally, i have cipro just waiting for it

I’d avoid petco livestock like the plague unless you enjoy ich and such, I wish you the best though! Cute specimen
I dont really worry about it as much because I have a qt and cipro for the anemones, but i def get that if just buying a fish from them and putting it straight into the tank. Support your LFS as well, but steal those amazing deals when you find them at petco before they kill the creature

This is for a dedicated species tank, but thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately I've gotten ich twice from an LFS and never from Petco, so I don't trust anyone at this point. :D

I just buy pre qt fish now mostly, if not ttm works well for external parasites + prazi for a pretty quick qt procedure. Regular long qt for me would involve full copper and prazi for the most part

not a bad plan!

I feel you on that level as well, I only know of one place that even quarantines by me, but they usually have a great selection so its not all bad

Well I tried to tell them it was a bubble tip, but they were sure it was a condylactis because of the pink base, white tentacles, and purple tips if that tells you anything.
I gotta say that's hilarious. Just went through the same thing. They had a sebae I bought. But they were positive it was a condy because the condy tag was under the sebae tank. So needless to say I got 2 huge sebaes for 40 bucks

I always at least try to pay a fair price, but never go so far as to tell them they have no idea what their talking about. It's saved me more money over the years than I would've expected, lol.

I got 2 Snow Storm Clowns for 60 bucks :face-with-tears-of-joy:
I'm hoping mine has some nice clowns when I'm ready to add them to my new tank. I haven't paid attention to clown prices the last year or so and I just started shopping and I can't believe how expensive they are now.

You definitely should think of it as rescuing, and that I have! Petco's around me have NO provisions for stressed fish or invertebrates. Even though they say they do. For eg: Raccoon butterfly, full on ich, brought it home into the QT $15 full recovery. Blue tang HELLE plus fin rot brought it home to the QT $15 out of QT well on its way to full recovery HELLE almost gone. leather coral, NO polyp extension for weeks there, and $7 now its a monster! I am not saying you are getting a deal, because if you add up the meds, salt, time, etc. you are paying way more the the initial value of the fish. Not all has been good, there was a malnourished Scopas tang that I was trying to get them to adopt out for weeks, but by the time they did it was too late.
Petco's have no business selling saltwater fish and inverts because they take no responsibility for them. They are just another cog in the wheel of what is wrong with this industry, making profits on volume instead of quality. They are not alone in this fault, and we have to do what we can to encourage change, before ppl. not in the industry do it for us.
Stepping down from my soap box...
P.S Does anybody in the LA area want to buy a fully conditioned "great personality" Raccoon Butterfly?
