I'm in Richmond, VA, I see the same stuff. Im sure it happens everywhere. I have seen some Petco's with knowledgable people running the system with healthy looking live stock, but just as many others that don't. You'd think by now they'd have quality/health inspection over aquatic animals like they do everything else.

That looks more like velvet to me. That powder brown has one day max until he's reached the point of no return. :(

If I had my quarantine set up i would of brought it home. 75% of the fish had it.

Local Petco staffers have told me that the only meds they're _allowed_ by Corporate to use on their systems are Herbtana and Kordon's "Ich Attack". (Certainly those are the only meds available to their customers...) According to them, Petco's bigwigs are concerned about all the fish meds flowing down our drains and out into the environment. (By extension, I guess it's "good enough" if they get fish out the door ... and money in. With no marine guarantee, the fish don't have to last long once they leave the stores . . . )

I agree and have seen similar fish here in Meechigan. I am so confident in tank transfer at this point that I'd consider taking a fish similar to that on and hopefully get a nice discount.

Was at Petco in Bedford Hills NY this afternoon picking up,some dog food. I wandered over to the fish. They have a frag rack loaded with bleached and dying corals. All covered with GHA. A sales associate came up and asked if I needed help. I asked him about the poor condition of the corals. He said they get new frags weekly and discard the ones that did not sell. Those poor little creatures

I'm in Spotsylvania as well and I visit petco weekly just to look. The poor fish there don't stand a chance. They had been doing ok recently but about 2-3 weeks ago I let them know they had a problem. They denied the issue. The problem obviously has gotten worse!

I've seen some bad places and this is the worse I've ever seen and they had some cool fish there including a beautiful melanurus wrasse and a lunare wrasse and even a bird wrasse a juvenile emperor angelfish some naso tangs, powder brown and a boat load of others but I would be scared to even quarantine I've been lucky 15 years straight with zero ich or velvet my yellow tang is over 15 years old and still darts around

I knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread, just reminds me of not only the Petco's of the world but many of the lfs in every city and state that are just as bad and neglectful. Just aggravates me to no end when I watch fish suffer agonizing deaths when they absolutely don't have to, the most basic of care could probably save more than 80 percent of these jewels of the ocean who travel hundreds of miles to a certain death. Something needs to be done about this unnecessary suffering and some industry standards need to be put in place.

They lose more in stock than it would cost to hire someone who cares enough to even give new arrivals a simple freshwater dip to decrease the odds.

Have 1 petco that I frequent just in hopes of finding a blue spotted watchman for a steal like I did the first time.

I also tend to feel the need to rescue the animals fromantic he terrible conditions they are given.

Out of a dozen visits, Ive actually made two purchases from the same petco here in Covington, La. Last purchase was of a zoa frags that so far has done 200% better in my tank. Thought it only had ~8p. But turns out its in the area of 18p

And my blue spotted watchman that I picked up for $12 about a year ago.
