Just saw this post on Facebook. I feel like Petco shouldn’t be allowed to order anemones at all. Especially a Ritteri.
Thoughts?

Some petco are better than others. I’ve been to some that I actually gave them props. And I’ve been to some that are in poor condition. Depends on the person running the area I guess. Compared to dedicated LFS, it’s about the same. Some good. Some not as good.

I guess this Petco May be different, I do see the employee that maintains that section post a good amount. So they must take good care.

I do feel like every nem I see posted is extremely bleached like that. How long does it take nems to bleach out entirely? Is that just from all the traveling around to get to Petco? Or just their lack of high powered lights?I don’t really see bleached nems at other fish stores

These nems don't bleach overnight. I don't know how it takes down to the day, but I'd think it takes at least a week (based on my experience treating them -- I'll explain more). I'm will to bet that they arrived at the wholesaler that way. I'd estimate that of all of the mags I've seen lately, probably half are bleached.

IME bleached mags do quite well, it just takes them a while to gain their color back.

While treating sick mags with Cipro, they tend to bleach by expelling a lot of dead zooxanthellae. If the exporter or wholesaler attempted to treat the mags, it could explain the bleacning (along with them being held in an environment with minimal lighting).

Well, that is some great information! I must say, I never really messed with nems outside of Haddonis. Knowing my two local petcos to me, one with a shutdown salt section and the other with a very rough I’ll maintained section, just had me pondering the idea of them bringing it in.

however apart from them, I do believe what you said to be true on them receiving this nem that way. They posted bubble tips that were bleached the exact same way. So I have a feeling the treatment by the wholesaler is correct.
