If anyone is looking to start a new tank, petco is having some insane sales. BioCubes are half off - what're your thoughts on them by the way?

I have a 12g nanocube. They're good as far as initial cost, but now that I have a 40g, I prefer the larger size. It's much easier to keep bigger tanks stable. Plus, I find a beneath tank sumps so much easier to work with than the all-in-ones.

Consider avoiding retailers like Petco, that mistreat their fish so badly. It's like they use the fish like "click bait" to get kids into the stores to sell other stuff. Was at my local Petco yesterday. The saltwater tanks had green bubble algae; all of the angelfish had ich; lots of fish with various bacterial infections on their scales; and of course dead fish. The freshwater fish were not any better. And its been that way for a long, long time. I have this love/hate relationship with Petco. The place makes me feel like buying all of the fish to try to save as many as possible. Big chains like Petco, etc. have put out of business lots of LFS. Sad. My closest LFS is over 100 miles away. Arrgh! Sorry for the venting. The place just makes me crazy.

Got a QT tank full of fish with velvet from Petco a couple of months ago. Learned the hard way. At least they didn't get into my DT.
Maybe it depends on which Petco you go to. I've always purchased from the one in Pasadena, Ca (arroyo street) and never had any major problems. They employed a reef genius named Chung who also had a side business in tank setup and maintenance. He ran it flawlessly. He is not there anymore but other than one angel fish I saw with Ich, all the tanks are in great shape.
