Purchased a PF 800 overflow box, I am running a mag 9 pump rated at 900 gallons per hour. I have to throttle back the pump halfway so it doesn't suck myself dry.
, this tells me I'm only getting about 400 gallons per hour out of the box, any help please?

How much flow you get in the drain is also affected by the plumbing. What size pipe are you running? How many elbows etc.? Straight as possible is the way to go for max flow. Any obstructions in the path slow it down. What about inside the box? Did you use the pipe that it came with? Those foam inserts slow it down as well.

I use a pair of "hofer gurgle buster" standpipes in my PF1000. They cut the noise down and flow very well. I have to close them up a fair bit to keep from flowing too much. The original plan was to do a Herbie, but something about my setup makes it very difficult to adjust, even with a gate valve.

1" pipe but 3 90 degree elbows

Stock pipe that came with the PF 800 overflow

Probably 1" if I recall.

I have half of the teeth showing on the internal box, wonder if I should lower it more in the tank?

Try without it, if nothing else it will eliminate it as the problem.

I have the internal box almost submerged. Not sure how much difference it makes though.

Emailed eshoppe regarding poor performance of the PF 800. In the meantime, built a hofer gurgle buster for that overflow and man! What a difference, quiet!!!
Didn't help my 50 % of advertised flow but, we'll see what they may be able to suggest.
