I had the same thing happen while on vacation, skimmer overflowed into my Co2. My tank was completely white all my corals died except my fish and Maxima Clam. This is what I removed from the tank

Wow sorry to hear about that man. It looks like you took a bigger hit than me. As far as corals all I’ve lost is a rainbow wall hammer. All we can do is learn and try to be better

Do you know what made your skimmer overflow. I can’t figure out why mines did that. Only that the wifi outlet I have it connected to malfunctioned and failed to turn it off during the feeding period.

I wouldn’t have used vinegar after the fish went through such a shock with the system defaulting. Doing the water change would’ve satisfied the PH easily. Shut off the system until you figure out the issue

I have no idea but my skimmer overflows a lot of the time. I have a LifeReef skimmer. I have learned if I'm going away to just dial my skimmer way back or just disconnect the Co2 reactor. It took over a year before I could keep SPS again.

Recirculating for the most part is safe and effective. I took this learning curve to install a auto shut off for the skimmer when it Rises too much

Oh my goodness- So sorry to see. Do at least 50% water change , add high grade carbon or even chemiPure elite and do daily10% water changes for at least 7-10 days.

Yeah I also do the same. My nutrients weren’t crazy so I always had it dialed to the minimum and needed it more for aeration and for the scrubber

Thanks for the advice. I’m gonna load up my reactor with some carbon and keep up with those water changes. I already did about 60% so things should start adjusting soon.

Dang that must truly suck, and I thought losing a pair of my clownfish sucked, also btw what is this fish, I have one in my 180 gallon reef but can’t find out what it is

Here’s my recommendation. Alongside having a float switch in your skimmer, I would also do a trap to catch all the skimmate before it makes its way into the scrubber. I run double redundancy’s like this in case my float switch fails.

Yeah a blotched anthias from Japanese waters. Some places have them for up to 700$+ they are so rare because they live 1000 feet down into the ocean and only come up to the surface once a year. that little guy hurt me the most. I had him for about a month and he just started coming out to play and eat..

Yeah good idea. We don’t need these kind of things happening again. There’s this guy @FishOfHex that just created a great 3D lid that works like a extra chamber to avoid skimate from reaching the media.

I assumed that the OP's was calcium hydroxide as that is what BRS sell, but I could be wrong.

Yeah I think it’s mostly calcium hydroxide after reading more.

Hey guys since you have experienced with this in the past what did you do about all the calcium precipitation all over the rock glass and pumps.. everything is bright white. Will it break back down as the ph drops, should I hit everything with a baster, or use a small power head to blow most of it off. Thanks

I honestly don't remember. I did throw some rocks away that were covered in Zoe's that I didn't want in the tank anymore.
