Ph crash last night

add 2 teaspoons of baking soda and report back in the morning.

I disagree.

I wouldn't recommend adding baking soda to a tank without knowing what the alk is. Buffers have already been blindly added to the tank.

What if the alk is already 13 dkh? Adding baking soda to a tank without knowing the alk exactly could be a disaster.

Well after some research I've been doin I'm beginning to think that my ph drop is not a cal, mag, and alk problem. I'm thinking this cause I've been reading that coralline growth will not show up unless there is a proper amount of cal mag and alk. In the last two weeks I've shown tremendous amounts of my first coraline algae all I've my rocks equipment and some on the glass. Does this sound like a reasonable answer to eliminate that as a the cause of the ph drop. I'm still getting test kits for alk and mag.

If your lfs doesnt have test kits they should at least offer water testing. Take in a water sample. May cost a couple bucks for each test but worth it. My tank didn't thrive until I stabilized the big three parameters. Bulk reef supply sometimes will have sales on their test kits. I prefer the hanna checker for alk, Red Sea for calcium and magnesium. Salifert makes good kits as well.

What phone app is that your using? Sorry, but i am a newbie too, so I am not much help on parameters.

Many of the R@R sponsors sell these kits. Get you a Salifert ALK kit at the least. hannah is the best. I have PH monitor on my system. seeing hte PH waver usually lets me know something else is out of wack.

pH fluctuates through the day. The net consumption of carbon dioxide during the day can cause you aquarium to become deficient in CO2 during the day, and the pH rises. If you are having significant pH fluctuations you can try and aerate your aquarium to degass excess carbon dioxide.
