Ph drop

Hey guys my buddy got some ph buffer from a friend that was supposed to be 8.3 buffer turns out it was for discuss anx his ph dropped to 6.8 in his reef tank what the best solution to fixi g this problem he already lost 1 fish and coral is not opening like it should any advice would be very helpful

A water change and adding an air pump with an airstone would be the best bet at this time to help raise ph. But be careful you dont raise it to fast, chances are everything is stressing out over the sudden drop, dont want to stress them more with a sudden increase

Someone also said putting the power to brake the plane of water would help the ph is this the same as an airstone method?

Itll help a little, but an airstone with air pump is best to pump oxygen into the water and get the co2 out
Edit: I guess I'm wrong. Point a powerhead towards the surface

Airstone or wand will do wonders. Bring it up gradually.

The powerhead pointed at the surface helps better than an airstone. The bubbles from the airstones themselves aren't increasing O2 content. Its the process of the bubbles coming from the bottom and breaking the surface. This creates a gentle, rolling flow. Gas exchange occurs at the surface, so that rolling 'turns over' the water that is at the surface, maximizing gas exchange.

Would slowly dripping a little Kalk help? As well as doing small 5% water changes every day for a week help?

I would appreciate a refresher course from @Randy Holmes-Farley Is the ph drop totally due to co2 at this level or an over abundance of h+. Ie will just blowing off co2 be enough. Thanks

weekly 10% wc and use co2 reactor with soda lime. also to have doors and window open as much as possible

Ive used brightwell reef buffer in the past, just watch out for a potential spike in gh. good luck

I have all my windows open 24/7 and have good water flow on the surface of my reef and i can not get my ph passed 7.8

Youre ok I cant get past 7.6 and all corals are happy and growing
