So I’m having an issue keeping my pH at a good level. Testing for ammonia nitrate and nitrite all yields 0. pH was 7.4. Now this is the third time this has happened. So I do a water change and get pH up to 8.0. Why does my pH keep dropping and how do I fix it? It’s a 40 gallon, I run a marine wheel bio filter and a protein skimmer. I have a peppermint and cleaner shrimp, pair of clowns and a molly

Easiest thing is to crack a window nearby. More effective would be to run the airline from your skimmer to source outdoor air. Lastly, if you are very determined to raise pH you could purchase and install a CO2 scrubber to feed scrubbed air into your skimmer.

I would not attempt to raise pH with chemicals as I do not view it as worth the potential side effects.
