I have calibrated pH probes in my tank and reactor. After topping off my media and starting everything except the CO2, I noticed the pH in the reactor is 8.8 vs. the tanks pH of 8.1. Is it normal for the pH in the reactor to be higher than the main tank?

Did you use 4 and 7 solutions to calibrate the cal reactor's probe?

Or did you use 7 and 10 to calibrate both probes?

Otherwise Tagging... :)

Switch the probes & see what they read. It is the same tank water, should be the same I would assume, if you are not adding CO2 yet.

A bunch of folks have recently reported pH rises in their reactor when starting up. It goes away so just keep going.

I’m not sure what it is from, but perhaps the media was washed somehow to have high pH surface chemicals.

I didn't re-calibrate this time, but when I last did both probes I used 7 and 10.
It would be best to calibrate using 4 and 7 solutions for your cal reactor's probe.
