Your effluent dkh is way low,. Should be double what you have at least.

Are you using a peristaltic pump or a needle valve to regulate effluent rate?

What is the flow rate of the effluent? Is it a few seconds per drip or a constant stream?

If it's a stream you can likely decrease both flow rate and co2 to get a better tune on it that will impact tank ph less.

Either way, pickling lime in your top off will be beneficial.

is it really the same thing?

Yup. It's pure, food grade calcium hydroxide. Search R2R if you don't believe. Ms Wages is what everybody used before BRS and reef vendors started repacking for a much higher price.

Why not just get it from the grocery store?

Why not just get it from the grocery store?

Bc he wants to buy stuff from BRS hahaha.

I get it, if you weren't in the hobby when normal household items like baking soda, dow flake and pelladow were used straight from the store it would seem kinda shady bc you also wouldn't have any memories of the old school BRS bags/boxes that were clearly hand repacked baking soda/dow flake/pelladow/pickling lime.

It's like $20 for several yrs worth either way so go with what you're comfortable with by all means.

If it was my first go round and I'd only ever seen BRS foil packs with pharma written on them I'd be hesitant too.

@OP,
You're lucky your thread lead to kalk. If it had led to Mg or Ca I would have really thrown you for a loop by suggesting you buy road de-icer vs pharma foil packs from BRS hahaha.

Btw, If you're trying to feed Acros, I would go with reef roids or benepets from your list.

i don't mind spending money, I already spend 20K on this tank and doesn't even look tank i'll take a picture of my dead bone corals not counting the fish i last over time maybe 2k or more fish die to velvet

i bought all hanna checkers I even have a iron checker damm thing doesn't even work

you correct, i went home and calibrated the probe
Can I point something out that I was having issues with just last week. Was trying to calibrate 2 of my ph probes and tried over and over but kept getting same readings. As it turned out even tho my apex is updated for some reason when I use the fusion app on my iPhone the calibration was not being saved. It was taking me they the whole process as if it was working and If I didn’t know any better I would have thought it was working but wasn’t. So I figured out that iPhone fusion does not work for calibration or ph needed to use my apex display module for 1 and then web interface on my pc to update my other system ph probe. So if you are trying to calibrate ph probe using phone fusion app this may be your issue. Good luck

Now those were a good investment that I wish were around in the "Mrs wages" days. I've never used iron but ca/alk/ultra low phosphorus should be on the shelf near any tank with acros.

Maybe the iron one was originally for FW and they repurposed it without tuning for SW?
