Ph off the charts with hanna checker

Hello,
I am trying to get myself into dosing BRS 2 Part into my system.
Before I start dumping chemicals into the system I am trying to fully understand how it all work.
I've been testing everyday to find my average consumption and everything seems to be good except for my PH.
I used my Hanna HI780 PH checker and the result says I'm above measurable range.
Meanwhile my other parameters seem good.

MG - 1420 PPM
CA - 380 PPM
ALK - 8.3 DKH
PH - 8.6+
SG - 1.025
TEMP - 76.9 F

Why is my ph so high if everything else seems fine?

didn't you just have a big dieoff? maybe thats why. Dosing can lead to high PH sometimes, which is why its important to monitor params. check nitrates, and ammonia too

Yeah that was me. This article is a different tank. My die off was in my 125 FOWLR tank, this tank is a 110 gallon reef.

I don't think there's any chance the pH is that high without a lot of high pH additives being used. It's test error.

My hanna reads consistently 0.2 higher than a calibrated Milwaukee - I want the hanna to be right, but just don't think it is

I can agree with that. I have Hanna Checkers for PH, Calcium, Alk, PO4, and NO3. My calcium checker is completely unreliable versus my Red Sea Titration testers. I'm starting to go back to all of my old test testers lately it seems.
I'm not familiar with the Milwaukee tester.

I have 4G for internet so I don't have "controllers"

The HI780 is very unreliable. I recommend a calibrated probe-type tester like the Milwaukee MW102.

Hanna has this type as well such as the HI98108 but I've not used them.

They need to chuck those HI70 models into the sun. How many threads will I read about this model flashing an error 8.6 ph reading? I personally experienced this as well.

I use the Hannah HI98103 pens now and it’s very good. I calibrate it with 7.01 and 10.01 ph solutions.

So I am going re-calibrate this.. test your testers.. and look for trends.

I may have to give the Milwaukee a shot.
